A big part of the reason that they are lacking right now is that game engines don't yet have the physics calculations in them..... Here is a good article with which to familiarize yourself with it:

Hmm, graphics card makers saying another GPU could do a better job... I see no inherit bias in that.

I think PhysX might be cool, but isn't ready yet. Maybe when UT2007 comes out.

Good info, I've just got this track record for making purchases at the worst possible times and I don't want to buy something that will be bested by something so soon (comparable, that is).

Not to turn this into I bash you, you bash me thread, but in fact, I've read enough about this physics card, and it simply does not justify itself yet.... and for being new, its actually been out for a couple of months now, and thats more than enough to either turn out to be the greatest hit or the worst failure, and sadly its falling off to the latter option for now.

A good example would be the 7950GX2, its been out for less than the physics, but it already has cool stuff like quad gpu drivers and stuff and games actualy can UTILIZE the advantages in having that card.

BUT Don't misunderstand me, I Do believe the Physics card MIGHT have a roll in the future, but there are other stuff that just might eliminate the need for it, but that only time will tell, for now buying a Physics card is a waste of 200$, you must at least agree with me about this, if not about the rest too...

I thought the G80 was comming this fall (http://www.neoseeker.com/news/story/5913/). There is more to the G80 than DX10 capability. DX10 games aren't due until next year because you will need Vista to run them.

The 7950GX2 is nice and will probably do well in UT2007, but I'm waiting for the G80. I think it will be worth the wait. Plus, if you want to run Crysis at high resolutions, the G80 (or R600) is a MUST!

Good things come to those who wait.

I would just go for it man. You have to deal with the fact that in the computer world, parts go obsolete fast. I would rock the system below with the budget you have. Though, you need to pick a motherboard because I can’t decide on one. All the Conroe motherboards seam to have problems. It should put you at about 2,100$ after you incorporate the motherboard.

I wasn't bashing you... I was simply stating that PhysX is still in its infancy.... Even though the HARDWARE has been out for a couple of months already, the breakthrough is going to come once GAME ENGINES incorporate game physics on a larger scale.

Alright, sorry for the misunderstanding then, either way.. Time will tell, its just that I have a feeling that other hardware will eventualy eliminate the need for a special card for the physics, like.. very good CPUs for instance .

Now you guys got me wanting to wait for the G80, but from what I'm reading I'm going to need Vista for any DX10 game?
