Default Video Editing Machine

Hey guys, my friend is looking to spend about $500 on computer parts for his new system used mainly for editing video using adobe premiere, the parts he will buy are as follows:

case with power supply
and firewire card

Can you recomend hardware that will be good for editing film?
Thanks in advance.

well he will definitely want a dual core for video editinng. on a budget of $500 i guess he would be forced to use a Pentium D. i don't know US prices very well but i guess a Pentium D 920/930 would fit into that budget. even the cheapest dual cores will beat the most extreme single cores in video work. don't bother with a firewire card just get a motherboard that has it integrated. for video work 2gb of ram would be desirable but i don't think that will fit the budget so look at 1gb. you won't really need name brand ram so just get valueram.
