Default Video cards on laptops

I was wondering if it's possible to get an external video card for my laptop, something that just sits on the desk. I realize that it's impossible to put this sort of thing inside a laptop.

Some laptops have upgradeable graphics. What's your model number? I can look it up for you if you want.

It's a Dell so I seriously doubt it's got upgradeable graphics.
