Video Cards. 256/512mb

Which will suffice a 512 or 256mb card until the DX10 Vista stuff comes out? Not neccessarily which will run everything maxed out but which will be good enough to enjoy my games without lag and pixilation.

You have missed the point. Visual memory doesn't affect performance until more is required. Name a few cards you are looking at.

For instance will I be able to run WoW and play 1942 and CoD with a 6600GT 256? or should I get the 6800XT 512. Or is a 7 series G needed?

I'd look at the 6800XT 256mb version or the 7600 or 7900 series, if you have the money. I don't think you necessarily need 512mb for those kind of games.

The 6600gt 128mibB is just as capable as the 256mibB version. Just some games such as BF2 like to use over 128Mibs of textures so you will get some slight skipping. I would try and get a 7600gt into your budget.

The 6800XT and 6600GT are similary equiped, not too sure how well they really perform though.

I personally have a BFG 7600gt OC and picked it up for about 175 and its awesome. its 256mb and I don't think you could get much more detail than this thing brings.

you still seem to be missing the point. just because the card is in the next series or has more memory does not make it better. e.g an FX5700 beats a 6200, and a 6600gt beats a 7300gs. you need to look at actual comparisons. at the moment the 7600gt is probably considered the best value for money card on the market.

I have a 6800xt (256mb). Best thing out there to just keep you busy til Dx10 comes out. I run fear and bf2 no lag at all with it. Costed me $100 so its cheap too. Definitly a better buy than a 6600GT.
