The 7900GS is a faster card really in DX9...where are you ordering from?

7900GS is slightly faster but it lacks DX10. So it is hard decision......

Slightly? overclock them both and the 7900GS beats the X1950PRO which the 8600GTS is slower than. The lack of DX10 won't matter much when by that time neither of those cards will be able to handle DX10 games very well I think. Go for whats faster now and then sell the 7900GS later and get like an 8800GTS if you really want DX10.

you can use whatever you want. I use riviatuner but ATI tool works just fine too.

You overclock to around as fast as the card is stable. Mine likes around 600/830 so it doesn't get baking but it can hit up to like 625/840 if i had better cooling.

Of course 7900GS has a lot of overclocking potential, but i heard and read the 8600GT can overclock all the way to be equivalent to a 8800GTS

really? it would have to be crazily overclocked, because those cards are a lot different.

ummm how about...NOT!

What you are thinking is that the 8600GT can become the power of a GTS as it was just downclocked from it..much as the 7600GS and 7600GT are.

If it had that kind of power we WOULD know of it...it's not possible and even after both overclock the 7900GS wins.
