Default Which video card?

Which would be better, an MSI GTX 260 with 896 MB memory and GDDR3 or a Radeon 4870 with 512 MB memory and GDDR5?

Assuming it's the Core 216, then the GTX 260; the 4870 would have to have 1 GB memory for it to be competitive.

The GTX is not a Core 216. So how much better is the 4870 512mb compared to the GTX 260? Is it a lot?

Enough to make a difference, but probably not enough that the naked eye would be able to tell it a lot. Nvidia does better at some games, while ATI does better at others. Either card would do you good.

What are some games that each is better with? And is there a big difference on how well they take the games between each other?

I'd go for the 4870.

You would have to do some Googling to find which games are better with which card. I think in the 4890 vs 275 tests that Nvidia did better in Age of Conan, but ATI did better in the other games (six games, with and without AA on).

Usually there's at most a few FPS difference, but there are some games where the difference is much higher. Again, go to Google. Check out some reviews for the cards, as most use games as benchmarks. You will also find some direct comparisons to help you better judge the results.
