Hello, I'm looking to make a purchase on a new video card. However, after inspecting that the new 9600GT models and such need a 400w power supply or more, I don't have the money right now to spend on both a power supply and a video card and I'm wanting to play my Call of Duty on higher settings.

I have a 300w power supply right now, and around 130 to spend on a new card.

Any suggestions?

But how many amps for the +12v. That's the important factor.

And what are the rest of your specs of your computer?

Not too sure about this 12v rail thing,

AC INPUT: 100-127/220-240v~, 7/3 5A 60/50Hz
DC OUTPUT: 300w ~~ 20.0A(ORG),+5v ~ 26.0A(RED), +12v1 ~ 8.0A(YEL)
+3.3v ~ 20.0A(ORG), +5v ~ 26.0A(RED), +12v1 ~ 8.0A(YEL)
+12v2 ~ 14.0A(YEl/BLACK), +5Vsb ~ 2.0A(PURP), -12V ~ 0.8A(BLUE)

That should be enough for an 8800GS I suppose. But when you get the chance, upgrade the power supply too. It would serve better for future upgrades.

You suppose? That doesn't reassure me too well, I mean - I'd hate to get this and it not work in my computer. I'm fairly certain it will, but I'd feel a lot more secure having someone who knows what's happening tell me.

According to the system requirements for an XFX 8800gs your power supply does not have enough amps on the 12v rails. The minimum requirements for an 8800gs include
450W PCI Express-compliant system power supply with a combined 12V current rating of 30A or more.

The best video card you could run with your existing psu is probably an GeForce 8600gt.

You mean something less powerful than like a 9600 needs more power?

Can anyone confirm this?
