Default Urgent Upgrade

Hi

I have made some changes to my last configuration, but since i have some doubts and few knowlegde about hardware, once more i ask for you opinion. I have to mount this rig till the end of this week cause the computer i have now is going to my brothers house.

First i want a computer based on the : Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 - 2.66 GHz Skt775 . Im thinking about the future, cause i dont intend to make another upgrade soon (i dont mind if every month another hardware componet appears!). I will run Games, Photo Editing, eventually AutoCad, or some others applications evolving Audio.

Case: Antec Sonata III 500 W
Case fan: Evercool 120 mm EC12025M12EA
Hard Disk: im not sure but im thinking about the Western Digital 320 Gb 7,200 Rpm 16 Mb Sata 2, do you think is a good option or there is better? or maybe two disks?
Optical drive: Samsung SH-S203 20x Dual Layer LightScribe Sata Black
RAM: 2 x 2 Gb OCZ DDR2 PC8500 - 1066 Mhz Platinum XTC Do i have a better option?
Motherboard: Ok here is my main problem, i want a nice motherboard that can keep up with the Quad processor and RAM (I dont intend to Overclock or use SLI/Crossfire!, just use the stock configurations)
Graphic Card: Another issue here, i think i have four nice options (looking for budget) , HD3870, GF9600GT, 8800GT, 8800GTS, whats the best price/performance?

Well there it is, i just want something stable, reliable, fairly durable and based on the QuadCore. Give me an help.

Thank you

don't get the q9450, trust me, because even though its faster than the q6600, you can get the q6600 for really cheap ($190) and its got more OC'ing capability because of the 8x multiplier over the 7.5x of the q9450, so the q6600 will max out more than the Q9450 (unless you can afford a board that can do 500+ FSB, like a 790i Ultra)

PSU: I recommend the PC Power and Cooling 610, don't EVER use a Case PSU, thats just asking for bad news
Video Card: 9600gt SLI is the best bang for the buck
Mobo: Asus P5N-D or 680i A1 or any 680i board (except the LT or SE)
HD: get a 7200.11 Seagate HD instead, it performs like a Raptor

Keep everything else

EDIT: you could get one of these PSU + SLI Set Video Cards for a decent price

I agree with vernong except with the processor (Q6600). In two weeks, the Q6700 will be in Q6600 price range. But you can still get the Q6600 not much difference.

Q6600 has 9x multiplier
Q6700 has 10x multiplier

Thank you for your great opinions.

I have made this revision:

CORSAIR HX-520W MODULAR – 92.46€
SEAGATE 500GB 7200 RPM S-ATA2 32MB – 82.00€
SAMSUNG SH-S203B SATA BLACK BULK – 26.00€
MUSHKIN PC6400 4GB DDR2 XP2 DUAL (2X2GB) – 92.90€
BFG GEFORCE 8800GT OC 512MB (PCI-E) – 210€
INTEL CORE 2 DUO E8400 – 171.95€

What you think?

Only missing the motherboard (I want a good, stable, reliable one), as i told you before i will not preform Overclocking or use SLI/Crossfire!! Im not into it. And how about the case do you have any good, fairly cheap case in mind?

Thank you

get the q6600 as mentioned...

if your going to be running audio editing software and autocad... you'll want 4 cores over 2 because you'll see much faster performance while running such intensive programs

game wise, you might see a slight loss in performance from the q6600, but it doesn't matter because you'll get 60+ frames all the time

1. *as you said.* Don't SLI because you won't need it

2. 8800gt 512 single is a good card and performs better than a single 9600gt so stay with that.

3. Get a Quad, either the Q6600 or the Q6700

4. Make sure you have a 64 bit os
