upgrading videocard

Hey i have a question about a video card. I am running windows vista 64bit and i wanted to upgrade my ATI hd4850 into an ATI 5870. I am wondering if it's even worth it for the DX11? i am not sure if vista will utilize DX11.

another option for the same price if i should run two GTX260s in SLI mode? i'd have to check my PS to see if it has enough connections (it's a 750w) but will the performance be better than a single 5870?

also does anyone know if the GTX200 series supports sound through HDMI like the 4850 does?

Don't bother with two GTX 260's, there's no point of going that route if you didn't have a GTX 260C216 to start with.

I'd say go with the HD 5870, and Vista will support DX 11.

If you're looking to upgrade then you should go for a single powerful card rather than two less powerful in sli, that way when you are ready to upgrade again you can just throw in another 5870. Heck, if you're not really stuck on DX11 then you could just buy another 4850 and see performance that surpasses a 4890.

Agreed. If you really need to upgrade now then get the 5870. I'd usually recommend something by nVidia, but right now it's the best card to get.

About the 5700's.

Don't bother with them pretty much coming from your card.

HD 5750 is about as powerful as an HD 4850 (not really justifiable to pay $130, plus you can spend $20 more and get the HD 5770)
HD 5770 is between the HD 4870 and HD 4890, kind of worth it, maybe look at the HD 5850 instead.

if you got the money now and it's burning a hole in your pocket then try to find a 5850 but, good luck finding a 5870 or a 5850. i'd say stick with your 4850 for now and wait till the prices come back down and they come back in stock.

HDMI sound w/ Nvidia cards is more of a pain, you have connect sound out to the motherboard where as ATI cards is all ready to use with the HDMI/DVI output.
