Upgrading to new computer... need to move data

What I did when I got my SSD was just install Windows7 directly to the new drive without doing anything to my old drive and I could still access all of my files on the old drive and could still boot from both drives, I just had to change the order in the BIOS. After I installed Windows7, I looked through the program files folder on my old drive and installed all the programs I knew I wanted on the new drive and then took a screenshot of all the other programs that I hadn't installed. Then I copied just the files (not programs or OS) to an external drive and formatted the old drive, and copied the files back to the old drive. It only took me about 2 hours...but I did stuff in between installations and copying so it wasn't really that long...
