Hey everyone,

My family purchased a PC for my father this Christmas. It was a pretty sweet deal, but it's not exactly top of the line. In fact it's not even close, but it was cheap and good for what he uses. (Only $262) I however expected it to run a little bit quicker then it has been. The boot up/deleting files/copying files/installing Software all is going very slow. Not to mention because I try to do so much at once Windows Explorer keeps freezing on me. I have to wait about 30 seconds for it to come back.

The ram, hard drive, and video are all adequate. I'm not so sure about the mother board. The processor could definitely use an update. I've always stuck with Intel so I don't know a lot about AMD. Can anyone recommend a good upgrade for the AMD Quad core? (Maybe between 2.2 and 2.8 Ghz?) How about a new power supply as this one probably won't be strong enough? Is the motherboard decent or will it cause some bottle necking?

Full Specifications
Gateway DX4200-09 Refurbished Desktop PC - AMD Phenom X4 9100e 1.80GHz, 4GB DDR2, 640GB HDD, DVDRW, Vista Home Premium 64-bit at TigerDirect.com

Quick Specifications
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit (Should be getting a free copy of Windows 7 in a few weeks)
Motherboard AMD 780G
Phenom X4 9100e 1.80GHz (4 x 512KB -- AM2+)
4GB DDR2 800
640GB SATA II (7200RPM, 16MB Cache)
ATI Radeon HD 3200
Power Supply 300 Watt

Well all the 780G's are AM2+ already.

I'd recommend the AMD Athlon II X4 620 or the Phenom II 920 and a Corsair 550vx.
