Hello again. Since a drive (2nd seagate now, stay clear) in my raid0 just crashed (thank goodness for backups), figured I might as well do some upgrading since my system is rather dated. Below is what I currently have and what I want to upgrade to.

Any thoughts on it would be nice, thanks.

Current Components
- EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
- Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80601920
- CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply
- OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3P1600LV6GK
- EVGA 01G-P3-1285-AR GeForce GTX 285 SC Edition 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (done with segate!!!)

Upgrade Components
I do plan on overclocking, so...

For the motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131701

For the CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...070&cm_re=sandy_bridge-_-19-115-070-_-Product

I plan on keeping the power supply I already have, unless I need more power?

Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231445

Video Card: Newegg.com - EVGA SuperClocked 012-P3-1572-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card (possibly sli later)

HD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148357

OS: vista 64 ult. to w7 64 ult.

For sound I have (Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card). Would using the on-board sound of the selected MB be better than this card or should I continue using it?

Thanks

Use the new Sandy Bridge Processors..probably 2700k. Faster, and better for overclocking. That's 1155 socket (p67..not h67 chipset)

Since you mentioned overclocking, why not just get the regular 580 and overclock it instead of getting a factory overclocked one?

Memory, I'd suggest Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-8GBXH ; it's higher performance memory.

For overclocking the cpu, you'll want a third party cooler. Something like this: Newegg.com - CORSAIR CAFA50 120mm CPU Cooler

I'm not really good with these so you might want to get someone else's advice; this is just the first one I could find with decent reviews.

Thanks. Must have missed that ram. As for the HS, I already have XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler. Will this fit/work?

1156 socket coolers will work with 1155 socket, but I'm not sure about 775 socket. I'd think they weren't compatible, but someone else will have to answer that.

To be perfectly honest, I think you should keep your cpu, mobo and memory. Upgrading to a i7 2600K will only amount to a very small performance boost over your present components.

I think you'll see a big increase in performance by buying two (2) of these.

Newegg.com - EVGA 012-P3-1570-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

and a big power supply.

Newegg.com - CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-950TX 950W ATX12V v2.3/EPS12V v2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

or maybe this one

Newegg.com - SILVERSTONE ST1000-P 1000W ATX 12V v2.3 & EPS 12V 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

agreed

I was gonna say too bad the 590 is out of stock, he could get one of those, but then I looked at reviews since you didn't say anything about that, and SLI 570's are actually better. I'm surprised.

definitely
