Question Under $2k Performance PC

Hi guys,

I am building a performance based PC, for video editing, encoding, recording etc.

I might also be doing some 'light' gaming on it as well. Can you check my build below and give some feedback about what you think?

OS Windows 7
CPU: i7 Core 3820 ($305)
MOBO: Asus P9X79-LE MotherBoard ($215)
GPU: Asus Geforce GTX 680 Twin Frozr III 2GB OC ($529) or
Asus GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II OC 2GB ($429)
RAM: G.Skill Ares F3-2133C9Q-16GAB 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 ($195)
CASE: CoolerMaster HAF X ($168)
PSU CoolerMaster GX +80 Bronze 750w (Already Bought)
STORAGE: 1 x SSD OCZ Vector 256 GB (I already own this)
And 1x Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM001 ($99)
Monitor: I have a 24" SAMSUNG S24B300H 1920 x 1080

Total: $1411 with the cheaper graphics card.

Thanks for the advice (:

Haswell is Intel's latest CPU architecture coming out. Out of the socket 2011 CPUs the 3820 is the slowest and usually gets beat out by the 3570k, and always by the 3770k. In terms of now, the 3770k is your better bet.

I also don't see a point in a high end video card for light gaming. Something more like a regular 660 would be more appropriate unless the ' ' was a clue.

Edit: Asus doesn't make the Twin Frozr cards, MSI does. I suggest an eVGA Signature series over the latter anyways.

Okay I have just briefly read about the Haswell, but does anyone know what socket the CPU will be?

Hmm the 3770K is a LGA 1155 Socket right, meaning that i would also need a different MB. But having more cores = more multi taking right?

Thanks for the correction
Well I am not going to be doing any major gaming until at least 4 months away, so i figured having a decent graphics card to run current games on HD would be nice.

3770k is Ivy Bridge which is 1155, 4770k is Haswell (newer coming out) will be 1150, and the 3820 is a generation old which is socket 2011. They are all i7, all 4 core with HT.

If you wanted more cores, you will need the 3930k. If you haven't already bought the motherboard and CPU, and don't want to spend the money on a 3930k then I suggest getting the 3770k instead of waiting for the 4770k to be released.

A 660ti, 670, or 680 will play any game quite nicely as will the 7970.

A current gen 3770K will do exactly what you want to do, pair it with any decent graphics card and youll be all set. im just suggesting waiting for the next generation haswell processors because they are literally a few days away.

get a 4770K and a 680, 7970 or even a 780 if you want to be a boss, 16 gigs of ram, a SSD, 750W Corsair/seasonic power supply, a case that tickles your fancy and of course a motherboard to plug it all into and you will be all set!
