Cards are only really requiring more amps on the 12v over more amps. The last 3 generations (minus SLI and crossfire.) have all stated around 300 to 350 for the medium high end cards.
Hiper Type R is a good PSU, I know I have one.
Take a look at benchtests on anandtech and you will see the C2D comes out considerably better in every test.
