Default Trying to build new system

Hello there. I hail from Christchurch NZ so hopefully can get some support here. I have an HP a1240a system now and am fully disappointed with it. I am currently trying to sell it off and build my own new one. I use the sight called Ascent (hope its alright to say that if not then please strike it out) to build my own PC setup and they ship it to me either built or in parts.

I was hoping maybe someone could create an account there and create a setup or if I can get some good tips for brands etc. I would prefer an AMD system because thats all I have ever owned until now and now I am disappointed in preformance.

Anyways, I have $2000 NZ to spend and would love some help. If there is anything I can do to help more please ask me. I have been out of the computer scene now for about 4 years and am quite rusty with brands etc..

Thanks for the help

not sure of links, but you can look into something like this maybe?

INTEL E6300
Socket 775, 965 or 975 type mobo
DDR2 RAM (either 667 or 800) (2x1GB if you can affordt it)
a 7900xx or X1900xx type video card
500-600W PSU (Forton, Antec, Cooler Master, etc...)
Sata II hard drive (sized to your needs)
DVD Burner
Case with good cooling to your liking...

if you have links that you can use to buy from we can help you come up with something more specific.

Thanks for the reply. I usually use this link:
http://www.ascent.co.nz/index.aspx

I use the PC Builder there to come up with something. Thanks for the suggestions. Do the extras on the mobo matter all that much? There are about 100 different boards on that site to choose from and it makes my head spin. There is also this link for some local dealers and such:
http://www.pricespy.co.nz/company.php?sl=l

Could I get more of a budget card than the 7900? Lke the 6600GT or something as well? I am not needing the "most" up to date stuff, but certainly good stuff. Things here in NZ are still pretty expensive being we aren't completely up to times yet.

Cheers

If your a gamer i would go with the 7900gt if your not a gamer then i would go with 6600gt or if your mobo comes with onboard i would use that.

I disagree. If your a moderate high gamer then get a 7900gs as they are 40-50 nucks cheap (75 after rebate) and yet not only are almost just as good stock but better when OC'd. And for the non-gamer than a 7300GT as they are cheap only 85-90 bucks yet play games decent just in case and videos and everything great.

I only play BF2 at the moment. Not a whole lot of time for gaming, so i dont need anything too extreme. I have just priced out some things on NZ sites listed here:

http://dragonpc.co.nz
http://www.pricespy.co.nz
http://c1com.co.nz/index.php

There are other sites as well, but too many for my brain to handle. Here is what I have come up with so far. A tad out of my reach being that it doesn't include a monitor, but any suggestions would help me to cut budget a bit:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz 2MB Cache 1.06GHz Socket T $331
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Intel965P Core 2 Duo DDR2 800 PCI-EX16 $280
XFX GeForce 7900GT 256MB DDR3 256bit PCI-E PV-T71G-UQF3 $428
Kingston HyperX 2GB 800MHz DDR2 Low-Latency CL4 DIMM 4-4-4-12 $550
Western Digital (WD2500KS) Caviar Hard Disk Drive, 250GB, 7,200rpm, *16MB cache, SATA-300 (SATA-2) $151
Cooler Master (CAC-T05-UW) Centurion 5 Silver color, No PSU $113
Sony DVD±RW DRIVE, IDE, 16RX18WX8RW, 12X DVD-RAM, 2MB BUFFER, DUAL LAYER $138
PSU Antec, Coolermaster, Forton 500-600w roughly $200

Thanks for the help

Cheers

I am not intending to bump my own thread, but had a few more questions if anyone could help a bit more. Is it good to buy overseas? Like from eBay or someone who would ship to NZ for example? That way I may get a much better deal, but no idea how to get the funds to them from here. Also, would building an AMD system be a good cheaper way to go?

No no amd system at this time, C2D is owning. Second if you just play BF2 currently then a 7900GS is plenty fast enough. Although the 7900GT is a good choice. I have a 7900GS and it played BF2142 with 90+ FPS with my E6300
