Default Trying to build

Hey I was wondering what you thought about this build, im trying to build a decent gaming machine but not going all out, and wanted to know what you guys think before i go any further... I am going to use my current sound card, dropped from 2 gigs to 1 gig of ram, went to a cheaper case and dropped the keyboard/mouse out of the system to see what i could get for a good price and trying to be smart and not getting unneccesary stuff...

my goal was a good video card and good processor with a decent mobo that will be upgradable and stay decent through the years

Why not get a single stick of ram instead of 2x512... that will allow for future upgradablity.. you wont have to sell off the two 512s... just stick another 1g stick in..

Well i figured since the mobo has 4 slots it still can easily be upgraded, and isnt there benefits for dual channel?

Its true it does offer some benifits, but like my motherboard.. when I put the 4x512 set up in it downclocked each stick to like DDR333 (suppose to be DDR 400)

I think the 1Gb stick would be better for the future.. unless you dont plan on upgrade the ram very soon.. then I guess you could go that route.. Im trying to save you from having to rebuy 1 of gigs of ram.

2x1gb is faster than 4x512mb. So depending on how soon you want to upgrade its up to you.

Get a g.skill ddr2800 1gb stick instead of the two 512's. It will run faster then 2x512 and you can upgrade up to 4gb later down the road when vista is out, since you said you wanted it to last a while.

That graphics card is good and its evga. I would use their step-up program to get a mid-range dx10 card when they come out next year (should be in January).

In all honesty I have done alot of research and have tested these so trust me on my suggestions.

First off the card you choose excellent no changes there. The CPU, also an excellent choice.

The case...i dunno I dont see 2x120mm fans. To get the most efficient cooling you want at least 1 120mm fan on the front and 1 120mm blowing out the back. Any extra help but those are the most important.

As for the hard drive i suggest this one instead.

16MB cache is a big difference over 8mb. Trust me on that

As for the mobo you choose it is a very good one but this one right here is just as good and yields actully just as high if not higher OC's.

I own that board and an E6300 and I have my CPU at 3.05ghz on slighly higher voltage.

As for ram if you still want 2x512MB these puppys right here are FAST. Ive seen them run at 540+mhz on 5-5-5-15 timings.

Last your PSU in all honesty is fine but even a 450w FPS might be overkill. The 400w version is 10 bucks cheaper and will work with your sysrem.

Remember these are just through my extensive reading and research, your build is fine right now with the exception of i highly suggest the 16mb cache version over the 8mb

Ok I have changed a few things, case with 2 fans, 16mb cache hard drive, 1gig stick instead of 2x512mb, what do you guys think.. also be completely honest.. i mean I want a decent gaming machine that will last throughout college (I am a senior in high school now), but i dont wanna go super overboard with stuff i wont need/wont use/not worth it... I want a budget gaming machine that will last me through college and not be TOP of the line, but be decent..

I am going to use my current systems sound card which s the sb live! 5.1, becuase sound is not THAT important to me and i will be using my headset 99% of the time anyway... Basically my original build was about $1250 and i wanted to cut out the useless stuff and slim down the price so i didnt dump that much money into it where i will be regretting it.....
