Default Is this the time to upgrade?

I built a moderate system over 2 years ago on a pretty tight budget.

Now I'm in need of an upgrade, but I'm wondering if now is the time. The buget is not as tight this time around, but I still need to futureproof this thing for a ways to go. It seems like a lot of stuff is just around the corner and I'm wondering how close all the new stuff is to market.

So what are the important things to consider? DX10? AMD's new socket? That new intel chip? When are they slated to arrive and how much are they expected to cost soon?

I'm on about a $800 budget for the CPU, GPU, and Mobo combined.

Any tips or suggests for what to look for?

I would wait until the new stream of GPU's are out that will take directx10. Suppodedly that is coming out within the next couple of months so you should be seeing your future items shortly after that.
