Lol... Well if you think its a piece of crap you might as well just drop the opty because its basically the same architecture. For your budget I would suggest going with an athlon 64 since you don't seem to be willing to spend on good cooling or a good mobo.

(sorry anger got me there) i don't think you're trying to get me to spend more, i just don't like the Athlon 64, every system i've been on that has one was slower than a 1.10GHz Celeron (maybe it was just me but, i'm not going to get an Athlon 64, i have my mind set on an Opteron)

Ok, if the Athlon 64 will perform same as the Opty, which Athlon could i get better performance out of a 3200+ or 3500+ and will they still perform better dispite the lower cache.

Well processor speed is a more important factor then cache. On stock settings the faster cpu will be better so A 3200 or 3500 would be better then the opty. I think the 3500 would be the best deal for like $110. It will also give you some room for a better video card.

In your situation I would not go with an opteron because you are only going to do a mild OC which an Athlon 64 can handle very well. You will be able to OC the 3500. Basically people go with opterons for more extreme overclocking like 600mhz+. If you only wanna OC a few ghz the athlon 64 is for you.

So I'd personally go with the 3500. Actually I am getting the 3500 for a budget comp I'm building this week.

I can get a 3500+ for $109 and could have it ordered this week, I'm going to stick with the MSI Neo4-F, but what would a good video card, i can get a 6600 (non GT) for around $80 which would suit my needs for a while untill i could upgrade to a Geforce 7 series.
