Default Thermal Grease, X2 processor

I just bought a retail PIB AMD x2 4800 processor. It came with the heatsink, and now I'm reading that I should apply thermal grease or a thermal pad to the lidded processor. Thermal grease is suggested, but from different sources I'm reading that I have to and I do not have to. I'm wondering if anyone around her has bought one of the x2 processors and knows whether I have to go make the trip to buy thermal grease. Just when I'm getting all excited to build this thing I find out I need more materials, sheesh. Please help me!

welll, the grease that comes with it should be fine, im presuming its that square whiet stuff stuck to the stock heatsink, if ya gonna OC then get some as5, when you buy a new hsf, but it will be fine if your not OCing, and the grease that came with it is fine.

hold, did it come with any themal grease, cos you definaly need some neverthless

There is a thermal pad on the bottom of the heat sink fan, but it didn't come with any special thermal grease. I was wondering if I should go out and buy some and apply it, even though there's already a pad on the bottom of the heat sink. If I should does anyone have any recommendations on a kind to get. By the way i won't be overclocking either.

Send a message via AIM to mousepad

Then don't worry about a thing. The little pad will take care of the processor just fine.
