Is everything here compatible and would you change any of the parts?

For ram, get either 2x2GB or 2x4GB sticks to run in dual channel.
The 3x2GB is intended for intels 1366 boards to run in triple channel.

You should get another burner instead if you need to have 2 optical drives. It will be able to read/write. While the Disc Drive can only read.

My opinion is that he should get something better than either of those gpu's if he's getting such a high end cpu. At least a 6870 I think.

Why?? The 460 and 5830 are near the top of the line. The x6 isn't that great compared to a i7 950 or higher. Sure its 6 reasl cores, but its an economical 6 core.

For most people the acheivable frame rates from theses 2 cards are very acceptable. Plus with gpus progressing as they do, its the cheapest thing to keep a system updated.

Oh, and you do realize a 5830 and 6870 have near the same specs with the 6870 being 60mhz faster.

^ a 6870 has a lot more on a 5830 than just a clock speed increase (i mean actual fps not specs). it's definitely faster than a 460 or 5830.
