Default Swap File Hdd

ok i made a post about this a few days ago i cant find it but new question....... i wanted to do this with a small 5gb hdd from an old gateway but they said it would atcually slow it down ...? what kinda hdd drive is needed and what else .. i dont know why i just really wanna put my swap file on a different hdd.....

well u need a hdd that is reasonably new & fasr but that is old & slow, it will slow you down. I recommend a partition

so a partition will have the same effect?? oo and is there a freeware partition maker because i dont wanna buy the 60 dollar one and i dont wann redo my hdd

You can make a partition in Windows XP. Go to start -> run -> diskmgmt.msc

I don't believe you will get a noticable performance increase with a partition on the same disk. It all depends on the disks mostly. If the game you are loading resides on DISK2 and the page file on DISK1 it will be faster than with both on same disk.
