Default strictly gaming build

so far this is what I got

dfi lanparty ut nf4 mobo
evga 7800gt v card
ocz 2x1gb ram
raptor 74gb HD
antec 550w power supply
cooler master centurion case

I know the processor should come first but I couldn't decide on which one would be best for my needs. I dont know much about overclocking and would like a setup that could do fine without it. But I also would like to leave that option open for when I learn more. This will only be used for gaming.

What processor should I go with?
Is there anything I should change with what I have so far?
What else would I need for overclocking?

everything looks good, the CPU depend on your budget.

$233 - 3700+ San Diego core (wouldn't go lower then this if you can)

$300 - 3800+ X2 (dual core) Manchester Core

$358 - 4200+ X2 (dual core) Manchester Core

$463 - 4400+ X2 (dual core) Toledo Core

Any higher then this is a waste IMO

I highly recommend the dual cores (3800+ is good for price) dual core becuase dual core is better for multi-tasking, plays current games fine, and dual core games better then most single cores.

But if you are going to overclock get an Opteron if you want.

Default Re: Your new build

I'd go with (2 X 512mb RAM) - They overclock better (I made that mistake/check my sig).
I don't think Opteron's are supported by that Mo although they work.
Check out DFI's forums for supported PSU's:

um...you should go with an opty, cause i hear they overclock better than a 3700+ or a X2 core
a good opty would be
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103596
or go with an opty165 (was that right)

You posted a Opteron 148, the 165 is here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103588 but I would rather go with the 3800+.

Moving on ... I'd agree with the above posters, except don't get the X2 4200+, get the X2 3800+ and OC it or get the X2 4400+ and OC it.
