Iv heard some things that support Vernon's claims though. So im not sure lol.

PC Modding Malaysia: content / inno3d geforce 7300gt ddr3 sli review

The 6800gs and 7300gt are about the same and 8500GT is the direct replacement for the 7300GT (or in Laymen's Terms its a just a 7300gt with DX10 capabilities)

and there are other cards you can compare like that: 8600gt and 7600gt, different series about the same performance, but the difference is that just the 8600gt is a little better performing because its DX10 (not that it can play it well, let alone a DX9 one)

However it is true that the 8500GT is about as fast if not SLOWER than the 6800Ultra...if you will look in the rankings you will see the 6800ultra is above the 8500gt.
