Exclamation SOS - NEED new comp ASAP - $1500

My sony Vaio laptop has been a nightmare and I'm officially putting it away since it would cost me $800 or so to fix the F-ing backlight.

I'm going back to the world of desktops, but I'm about 8 years removed from building one. I really don't feel too comfortable buying the components separately and putting together a sweet gaming machine. However, most of the sites I've checked out are charging more than my $1,500 limit for a nice gaming machine.

Any recommendations? Web sites/ companies to check out?

I've looked at alienware.com, velocitymicro.com, voodoo.com, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Build. Once you pass about the $500 mark, it becomes a LOT cheaper to build than to buy.

And if you're afraid, there are guides and whatnot. Plus, it's really not that hard.
