Hi everybody, as of right now I use laptop and I use it alot to use Convert to DVD 5 software. It takes FOREVER to convert then burn to dvd lol... an hr and half to 2 hours at the most for convert and burn to dvd. So since I finally got a job that I started last Monday, so hopefully I'll build a computer sometimes this summer or something. I was wondering what should I look for when I list for parts to speed things up with that software. Would a ssd makes a HUGE different? Of course I'm pretty sure the CPU plays that part as well. Thanks for the help.

Your time is based on how long it takes to transcode and burn. So basically you're limited to CPU and burn speeds.
An SSD won't make a difference in what you want to do, but it greatly improves overall general performance and makes things load at a pinch.

It's based on the CPU you have. If you have a better CPU, the transcoding will go faster.

So there's nothing I can improve the speed? It's just based on the software itself then?
I didn't say that at all. It's based on how fast your processor can transcode the file to DVD format, and then how fast that DVD can be burned. You can get yourself an 8 core Xeon to reduce hypothetical times to say 10 minute transcode but you're still limited to 2x or 4x for a good clean DVD burn.

Ok gotcha, of course Intel is the way to go? I don't plan on gaming.... a mid range GPU would be good enough? I do edits as well since I do photography, does RAM play the part as well?

Depending on your budget I'd say go with the usual. 8GB of 1600, i5 4440, lower end GPU, good Seasonic PSU (doesn't need to be the 620 because no GPU), you get it.

You don't even really need a GPU since the HD IGP can utilize quicksync.

Alright lower end card sounds good then, I do rarely play games once a while and not a hardcore gamer lol. I do connect computer to tv sometimes as well to watch movies, etc.... so lower end card will do. I'll do the budget list parts and see what you think, of course i know prices always change, but I want to get the idea. That way when I have the money, I would be ready to know which parts to get.

Here it is.... its close to 600, of course I would need to get monitor, keyboard and mouse with windows. Possible a case as well I have 1 but it's old, got it from my bro. Would AMD would be good or no? Since I wont be gaming.
