DDR2 Huh?
It's easy to realize how little I know. I know that DDR2 is better than DDR, and that AMD processors cannot use it; Intel does, but beyond that, I have no clue what a person means when they say "DDR2."

DDR2 is just a different type of memory chip. don't get wrapped up in the hype that it is better. it has its shortfalls and many of them, most of all horrible latencies. the only advantage DDR2 has is higher operating frequencies but i think AMD sufficiently demonstrates that frequency isn't everything

So what you are saying is that AMD is creating a completely new socket type just to integrate a memory chip that Intel has had for a long time and isn't really THAT good.

...wow.

What is XDR?

i'm not entirely sure but i know it is at least several years away. like i said though i suspect AMD has been forced to bow to pressure from memory manufacturers who are tired of having to maintain 2 memory platforms for sale.

Yeah, I suppose.

How soon is Conroe comming out? I am supposing that it will come out about the same time as AM2, but I don't know for sure, and I don't know why. AM2 isn't supposed to be that good anyway, right? Certainly not good enough to make AM2-compatable processors on par with Conroe. I'm just a tad worried about the future since I just built a rig, and want to choose upgrades carefully since I cannot upgrade every month.

conroe is due for Q4 this year. still we don't really know what AMD has up its sleeve and so far we haven't seen any newer tech only the currnet tech modified to support DDR2. when we see the newer revision cores we may have a little more to smile about

I hope so. I am not going to be stupid and say "OMG What will AMD DO?!!" I know that they have plans, but I just think that AMD will lose alot of sales if they don't put something out to compete with Conroe soon.
