requirements:
Run multiple, CPU(?) intensive applications simultaniously
>= 4GB RAM
Very fast
>= 2 monitors
wireless networking
Room for expansion HDD(?)
>= 500GB HDD
long periods of uptime with heavy loads
tower chassis
vista 64 bit

Those are some unusual requirements, for example I thought that studios used equipment racks in which case a rackmount chassis would surely be more appropriate? Also windows is not traditionally known for their long uptime and why wireless networking? If this is a computer rather than a server then I think mac pro is the norm.
Of course I dont own a studio myself so as ever I'm not too sure lol

A 19" rackmount case would be nice, if you have other 19" racks to put in your equipment rack. Nothing against Mac but only reason why I would buy one is if the software I wanted use were only made for Mac which to me is not enough reason to purchase a $2200 Mac pro

You know thats something I sometimes wonder as well. It does seem that macs have dug themselves a niche there and I'm not sure how.
What is it that makes them special?

They run a simplified form of Unix. Its odd really. Unix is the old school hardcore real nerd's OS. But Mac OS is based on it, and turned it into something completely different.
