ok--

i got my parts and im planning on putting them together- i have a wooden countertop but i will be standing on carpet

should i worry about static?
do i need esd gloves?
should i get a wrist-strap?
instead of a wrist strap could i just ground myself with some speaker wire?

--- somebody told me i would be alright just touching the case would discharge me

i have read some stuff on here that says not to worry too much but i am nervous-- what do you guys think?

yeah, i think you're just worrying a little too much.

just touch an area of your case that is bare metal. besides that, the only tool you'll really need is a screwdriver and the ol' noggin.

As long as you dont go shuffling around your carpet between each component you install, youll probably be fine. Like others have said, you can touch your case to discharge any static. Iv been messing around in computers for 10 years and never had a problem with static. Good luck and have fun! Building it is the fun part!
