Should i get Surround sound speakers or a set of CAns?

Well, i have a new system to be built either 2moro (wen parts hopefully arrive) or sometime this week.

Opty 165
2x1GB G.skill DDR500
ATI X1900XT 512MB

High end i guess, and i play BF2 and loads of other First person shooters.

I have no money but im willing to pick something and save up for it.

Which sound system should i get.

is 5.1 surround sound decent for my small box room away from other peoples rooms. or a set of high quality stereo headphones?

and which sound card should i get?

Im thinking X-FI but i duno which model. does the X-ram offer any advantage?

and does the front panel offer me more connectivity options as well?

This is to be used mainly for gaming, and partially showing off to friends, but thats not the main reason.

and also casual music listening and DVD watching. what should i do!?!

actually now that i think of it. i love my sound.

So il probably get the Logitechs Z-5500 surround sound.

Please note. my room is small and box shaped. i mean small.

like 2 metres by 2 metres.

i guess the Fatal1ty is future proof and FEAR and BF2 make use of the Xram. what should i get.

With headphones you cant really show off to your friends.
I dont know how 'casual' you like your music but i like mine LOUD and i dont really get the same effect from headphones as opposed to surround sound.
If your game alot i think you might use team speak or such so if you need late night gaming/music use your headset (if you have one)

btw what sound card do you have or is it onboard?

On board at the mo. but im willing to upgrade. ive never had a new sound card before so i duno wat to expect. im pretty skeptical.

On my build 'in planning' i think ill stay with onboard but ive never had a new sound card before either.

Cans. Get the Audio-Technica ATH-A500 or ATH-A900. Whichever fits your budget. You can get them at audiocubes.com. Read these threads, they should be helpful to you:

Ive never experienced surround sound before. can anyone elaborate on that?

sound positioning: before i could only tell front/back/side to side. Now i can do a whole 3D in there. This is usefull when you play BF2 on mastuur and you need to dodge the rain of pain from a hovering blackhawk.

I own the $350 500-watt Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 speaker system, and ever since I have gotten my a900's, they are all I have been using.

Yes, both the A500 and the A900's have an extraordinarily large soundstage. Read my post with the quote in it.
