Default sheky's midrange upgrade!

first to get things out in the open, not overclocking, looking for a cool (as in temp) and relatively quiet comp all prices are as shipped (pricewatch). here are specs:

Athlon 64 3500 90nm Rev E Venice ($234)

EVGA GEFORCE 6800 GT 256M PCI express ($330)

DFI Lanparty Ultra-D ($129)

changing the ram (i want to get 2gb) to this: 220.75

unless you have other suggestions.

this looks like a good psu: 39.99

as for the case: 24.00

HD: 53.00

and the dvd reader/burner: 42.99

You might consider the 3700+ instead or if not, than don't get the 3500+, you won't really note a huge difference between the 3000+ which only costs $146. Other than that, looks good. Don't forget fans and arctic silver.

First got a computer 4 years ago. Windows ME. Got second hand computers with different operating systems from my family members to play around with...

I'm wondering why people so often recommend the 3200+ when it's hardly faster than the 3000+ and costs and extra 40 bucks.

i think im going to change the ram to this:

240 pin compared to 184 and 40$ less.

as for PSU im debating btwn the 3700+ and the 3000+ if i should hold out, prob will get the 3700+ and just wait.

as far as arctic silver goes thats only a few bucks, and the fans come stock w/ the case.

Btw, prob will go zalman w/ the psu fan.

you cannot use that RAM, it is DDR2. Currently an Intel Exclusive item

I suggest this Optical Drive (this drive does almost every DVD format known to man!)

INTEL i7 930
3x2gb Corsair Dominators
