i got a pentium dual core now my friends said that would run alright for minercraft with a few people over internet with linux ubunto

Depends. How much RAM? MC is RAM and processor intensive. I find 8GB sometimes isn't enough for three or four players.

Should run "ok".

The server I had run it on only had 4GB and was a P4 with HT. Could do 3 people well, 5 people with some occasional lag.

Also I recommend Debian as the base OS. Use the NetInstall ISO and install only the bare esentials: ssh server

It's a lot more lightweight than Ubuntu. Uses maybe 300MB RAM before starting the server

Then install the java runtime environment and download and run the server. I have a script that will start the server in its own virtual screen (for better management) if you're interested.

the one i just set up with help from a friend can max store 4gb
