Well the cold hard truth is really, unless you buy a specific brand of laptops you're pretty boned in the upgrade department. Anything else you do aside from a simple storage or RAM upgrade is going to be 50/50 in pretty much every other department.

I'm starting to get that. I should get a desktop to play around with and figure some things out.
