Default sata dvd drives

i had no idea these existed, i might get one, seems like the way forward but why are they so rare. i was thinking about the samsung SH-S183.

any thoughts?

I havent read too many good things about them really. Seems like nobody even notices them. However i would get one just for the fact that it uses a smaller sata cable for better management/airflow. PATA cables suck.

why not just use a PATA>SATA adapter then?

there is NO advantage to a SATA DVD drive other than the smaller SATA cable and the fact that each SATA device has it's own channel. even hard drives haven't seen any true advantage from SATA yet and they can produce a lot greater bandwidth than a DVD drive.
