seagate may have a 5 year warrenty but for that price, just get the samsung

You still couldnt pay me to use a maxtor drive for anything that i need the data.

my uncle works for seagate and it is commonly known in the hard drive world that maxtors are towards the bottom of performance/reliablity

Maybe 2 years ago.

They are much better now... No reason not to buy them.
People should keep backups of thier data reguardless of what harddrive they have.

there aren't any unreliable drives on the market! there may be some with a higher rate of failure but not to the point of being considered unreliable. the Maxtor drives i've worked with have out lasted the Seagate's i've worked with.

Sorry, but after my last job and replacing at lesat 200 maxtor drives over a 3 year span...no..never.
