Higher clocked Dual Cores perform much better in games as opposed to slower clocked quads.

^unless u oc them. No it is not required, but their are some games that utilize 4 cores out, and that number is only going to grow, rapidly, and quite soon. Also, don't get a q6600 at the moment. There is a bad batch out right now, so either buy a older used on, a q6700 new,or a q9550 new.

One comes with a fan+heatsink and the other doesnt (i think). There is no difference in the processor. But as Luke said, dont get one now, they have high voltages apparently so they wont overclock well.

EDIT: Mate, dont make two different threads for what is basically the same topic plz.

would it be worth just going with the E8400, how long would it last until i absolutely had to use a Quad core for most everything?

atleast 3 years... heck the single cores are still able to be used on most things, it's just slower

^so not true. If u want good performance in games and applications, a dual would only have good performance for at max a year.
