Yes, you've guessed right! I am requesting assitance, opinions, and advice on building a new computer. I'd just feel so much more comfortable getting feedback from all of you than I would by diving into something by myself or perhaps attempting to trust a techie at some retail store. This topic has more than likely been posted more than a gagillion times, though the central focus on "my" personal pc would be quite nice. So if you can, I would greatly appreciate it if you all could bare with me.

I understand basic concepts of hardwares, but I've been out of the scene for a little while, now there are so many letters and numbers I've lost track of whats left or right!

As far as what I'd like to use it for, the main system hog essentials I take pleasure in indulging myself in would be Gaming, Online gaming, Games like Counter-Strike/Half Life 2 or any other first person shooters, MMORPG's like FFXI - Star Wars Galaxies things of that matter, but you get the idea. I also like to use my computer as an entertainment center, even though I feel awkward saying that because well, what else do you use it for? So I like to listen to music, and I like music of high quality, turn the dial and leave it there. I'd like to get back into 3D modeling as well. Also watching movies would be nice too! Or course I love to burn! The not so resource consuming things I enjoy are Graphic Art oriented activities. You know, photoshop, web design, etc etc.

I know SORT of what I would like as far as specs go, price is always an issue obviously. For what I'd like I DOUBT I'm going to encounter anything in my price range I'd like to shoot for, so perhaps my assembly will have to be in sessions. I'd like to shoot for 600-700 but as I was saying, for as ABLE ready and STURDY as I'd like it to be, it sounds like a gift from god to be able to purchase a PC for that range.

Heres what I'd LIKE, please feel free to change any component necessary for great of good, or any other reason. Finding out the SPECIFIC details/components would be really exciting seeing as like I was saying earlier, theres soooo many different types of each portion of hardware. Keep in mind I have NOTHING, so I'd pretty much need all the necessities down to keyboard, mouse and the whole sha-bang. The computer doesn't need to APPEAR fancy at all, after all it's whats under the hood that counts, right? I'm trying to hit the BEST performing piece I can, for the best price I can:

AMD 2800+ is a minimum I'd like to set
1gig ram
256mb vid card
is a power supply of 350w too low?

Those are the only few requests I'd have to set a mimimum, as far as a hard drive goes, or what sort of motherboard/case/monitor/fans and the rest of all of that is concerned, I really wouldn't know so thats why I turn to you all to perhaps lead me into the light!

Again, I really appreciate it...

-Ven

EDIT: Yeah I figured since I was shooting for the stars, and as usual I tend to miss horribly, I figured we should just go concept and say 1000 ranged to anyone who would be able to lend me a hand

And thanks to those who have already been getting me back into the swing

It's more than you wanted to spend, but it's what you asked for. It's hard to trim certain things down at this point without comprimising upgradability and overall performance. Good luck in your build...

Ryan

On Edit: I forgot the operating system. Add around 100-150 bucks to finish the deal.

With all the thing you want to use this computer for, you really should save more money, a 600-700 budget on this computer is not even worth it because you will probably be dissapointed in performance in the end. If you want a mediocre experience you would probably need close to 1000. My suggestion is to save.

Awesome, and it's cool that it's out of my range, I probably said it but I'll say it again anyway. I figured I'd save more, I figured it would cost me around a 1000 to get a good system.. Though thank you for all of your guyses help!
