Default Remodeling

Im wanting to upgrade my computer to some newer technology (Cpu, Ram, and Mobo) Right now I have socket 939 and DDR 400 with one DX9 GPU. Im planning on going to socket AM2 and DDR 800 with two DX10 GPUs. My question is what two Nvidia cards would be best price/performance to put into SLI with my new set up. I currently have one ATI X850Xt OCed which can play most all my games totally Maxed out on 1280x1024. Im aiming somewhere around HD 2900XT or 8800GTS/X performance. I want something that can play oblivion at at least 24fps. What would u reccomend?

This is still a working progress, I dont even have the money to upgrade my essentials yet, so my graphics set up is still awhile off.

Well SLI is basically going to be a waste for you. Just get a 8800GTX or Ultra and they will max out any game.

The only reason to go SLI is if you have a crazy resolution, or you just want to brag...no offence.

A single card solution is better for price-performance, heat and efficiency. If its going to be a while away then there are new cards coming out soonish anyway.

wouldnt two cheaper cards in SLI out perform a single expensive card though? im not looking to spend a fortune i kno the 2900s are around $400 and the 8800s are like $500 i was hoping to SLI two cards for around $300 and acheive performance of a more expensive card, at least thats how i understood it.

^ Negative. You only see a 50% increase in performance AT BEST, not double the performance like most would believe.

SLi is only a legitimate option when you have the absolute high-end cards and you want to completely max out performance potential, and of course if you use money for toilet paper

Get a 2900PRO for about $270 and overclock it to XT speeds OR wait and look into the 8800GT (some promising but early and questionable benchmarks have been released that make it a potential winner)

It sounds like your not desperate for this pc atm, although yur hardware is old its still fairly good perhaps you should try overclockig your current cpu to get a performance boost with the right cooler I believe it gets up to an average 3ghz.

I am only saying this because you should only build when you really need it and with the new AMD cores still rolling out and nvidias re-release of the 8800gts and the 8800gt its not the greatest time to build on a limb.

DON'T use SLI big money waster unless you want to brag or have a specialist use.

If you have the time to wait, both ATI and NV are coming out with new cards next month. The 2950 pro and 8800 GT both look to be maximizing price/performance. And at the resolution you play at a gts will be MORE than enough to run 99% of games. I'm running a gts320 @1920x1200 and so far havent had any problems, but i foresee crysis making my card cry.

O yeah i think ill wait and see what comes out, I might just stick with my older hardware and just upgrade my graphics card.

As far as overclocking goes, ive got an aftermarket cooler and arctic silver 5 paste caked on but can only acheive speeds of 2.4 stable. I mite b doing something wrong, but i just think my cpu just doesnt oc very well, but i did have a 64 3700+ and got 3ghz outta that beast.

My gpu ocs very very well, and im playing the crysis beta on it lol its fine as long as the settings dont pass LOW, haha its so bad the card wont even try to play HIGH, the textures dont load right (because of no shader model 3.0)

But yeah ill just wait till the new cards come out and hopefully they wont b very expensive and ill have more $$ by then
