Default Regarding the Intel price drop....

Does anyone happen to know if this will apply to the e models or is this only going to affect the Quad Core models?

I need to know as I am going to be buying an e6700 sometime soon, would it be best to wait or to go now. Also will the e6750 be very expensive when it comes out?

BTW, will my computer run faster on the whole if I buy a processor with 1066 MHz FSB and then 1066 MHz RAM or if I buy 1333 MHz FSB processor with 1066 MHz RAM.

The Intel price drop is affecting the dual and quad cores of the C2D line up.

Don't get the e6700. Get either the e6750 or q6600. The e6750 will be around $190, and the q6600 will be around $270-280.

The 1333MHz FSB doesn't make a big difference actually, because the 1066MHz FSB can easily overclock past those. You don't need 1066MHz RAM. Just get the e6750, with good overclocking DDR2-800 RAM, such as Crucial Ballistix or G. Skill HZs, which are capable of reaching 1066MHz speeds.

News : Processors : Intel Desktop CPU Price Cut On July 22

Q6700 2.66 1066 - $ 530
Q6600 2.4 1066 $ 530 $ 266
E6850 3.0 1333 - $ 266
E6750 2.66 1333 - $ 183

The e6750 will cost $183

Here is the link: VR-Zone : Technology Beats - Intel Desktop CPU Price Cut On July 22

As far as the e6600 and e6700 there has been no mention of a price cut to my knowledge. Only things really discussed were the new e6x50 models and the price cuts for the quad-core.

Like b1gapl said get the e6750 with some Crucial Ballistix or GSKill HZs and you will be perfectly fine.

Out of interest, will the E6550 feature the G0 stepping?

I believe all the new cpus will have G0 stepping. I think someone had mentioned that the quadcores would also be using the G0 stepping.

what's the G0 stepping? Because I have the L2 which is a horrible OC'er. Only got a 42% increase out of it. (It's funny but even that is rather pathetic.)

I was wondering if it was a famous stepping or something. A stepping that's already on certain chips that OC's really well, or if it's all hypothetical.

I recently read a review of the E6750 compared to the 6700. They are almost Identical in performance, the FSB really didn't make a difference, and I don't think it was intended to. So the big thing really is the price difference, which is why I am patiently waiting till Jully 22nd .
Also, the reviewers said they easily overclocked they E6750 to 3.84 ghz
