I'm getting myself a new computer and was checking out the Recommended Components list. I was thinking of getting a Q9300 or Q9450 Quad Core but I noticed they weren't listed there. Is there any reason why these aren't as worthwhile as the Q6600 or Q6700. I've heard that maybe the 6mb L2 cache of the Q9300 is a bit of a letdown? If it's just the price tag then I don't really mind.

Q9300 and Q9450 are going to be discontinued and will be replaced with new 45nm Quad. They also have low multiplier and FSB hole.

Q6700 is also gonna be discontinued in Q3. The difference between the Q6600 and Q6700 is the multiplier.

Beat me to it... but thats why...

also Q9550 will be changing that :) 9x Multiplier

Well depending on Veedub's overclock, he's my guinea pig on deciding whether to recommend it or not

I'm actually probably going to stick with the q66 until nehalem comes out. Its just too close now to bother with a lateral cpu upgrade. Plus upgrading to SLI gtx280 is pretty much going to tap my upgrade budget for a few months. I also plan to go watercooling with a mountainmods case.

Ok, a lot of that sort of went over my head. Which do you think is best performance-wise, to be used in a gaming rig?
