Wink Recommendations Please

My good friend has turned to me for advice on buying a laptop. He has $1,000 to work with plus or minus a small amount. I could figure out which has better parts but because i have no real hands on experience i felt it right to ask of you all. The laptop will be used for word processing, downloading and working with music, and multitasking. What are the top 3 laptops which we should be considering.. Thanks very much in advance!

updated sig soon

I've just purchased a Dell Inspiron 640m and am quite pleased with it.

decent all around... graphics aren't the best, but for a dedicated card, it's pretty good. should be decent for multitaksing and some light gaming...

I would go with a C2D laptop as you will not need a dedicated GPU in there and for what he's doing an Intel will be better to throw in there.
