if you wait until Q1 2008, you'll see many price drops on CPU's because of the new AMD Phenom and the new line of intels

Every month new stuff comes out. Right now there isn't any huge break throughs other then some new amd cpu's. But I think for your budget a core 2 duo would be a better buy.
