my mates got a laoptop a HP i3 dont know the model but anyway he put a ssd in it and instaled windows 7 home premium it works fine, ie boats up fast and loads programs fast but he says in my computer its showing as a normal hard disk drive and he says that if you insatll a ssd windows 7 should recognise and call it a solid state drive?

Windows just reads the data. Disk management should say it's an hdd. However, in device manager, there should be info on your ssd. All that shouldn't matter though. If you can see the drive, access it, and it is the size it's supposed to be, you're good. Check for the ssd drivers to be sure everythings working right if you need to.
