Default Rate my purchases so far...

Today I just bought this monitor

Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 2253LW High-gloss Black 21.6" 5ms (2ms GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 8000:1(1000:1) - LCD Monitors

Yesterday I bought this Hard Drive

SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS Hard Drive Bulk at ZipZoomfly

I also bought 2 sided Ballistix and a Corsair 520 HX PSU

Now I need help building the rest of my computer

I am having trouble finding the best Motherboard and Video Card to fit my needs

Since this is a big purchase for me I want to make sure I get everything right

Everything looks good to me.

You could go with a p35/p45 board and a radeon HD 4850/4870. that would be your best bet for price/performance for gaming.

What are your needs for this computer and what cpu are you looking at?

Thats what I am looking to buy right now but instead of the p5q pro I wanna try and get something cheaper like the biostar p43

Also wanna get a q6600 and a 4870 or a 9800 GX2 (both same price)

EDIT: I want this computer to be used for gaming and school stuff like powerpoints and surfing the web

Will my PSU be able to handle a 4870/9800 GX2 and q6600

I am not sure if I should get a cheaper dual core or a more expensive future proof quad core

To run a 9800GX2 you would need a 6-pin to 8-pin PCI-E power adapter. All the other cards would run with the 1 or 2x 6-pin PCI-E power connectors of the 520HX.

Can I CF 2 HD4850?

For my moniter size what would be best?

Does CF have problems like SLI with stutters and if a game doesn't support Dual GPU it wont perform as well?

The HD 4870 and 4850 don't need adapters right?

Yep. 4850's only need one PCI-E 6-pin each, so you could crossfire those. All dual-gpu solutions will have glitches in certain games, but the CF 4850/4870 has done very well so far. I would say at your monitor resolution it would be worth it. Anything less than your resolution is not useful, but at 1680x1050 you will see increased performance.

The HD 4870 and 4850 do not need adapters as they have a PCI-E 6-pin power source (4850 has 1, 4870 has 2).

I am not sure which one I should get... a single 4870 or 2 4850
