RAM query

Hi guys, just a quick question!

I have 2x4gb corsair vengeance ram and 1x8gb corsair vengeance - can you run a single and double module kit on the same mobo without having any issues or detrimental effects? my understanding is that it's not a good thing to do, leaving 1 channel slot empty. any input appreciated!

oh i forgot, the mobo is an asus P8Z77-V LX

You can run it, but it will run in single channel mode. Go ahead and try it, if you don't notice a difference the you're set.
