I want to overclock the RAM for gaming I want to know which one would be the better choice

just a question...why does everyone wanna overclock their ram, vid card and stuff....just so you can say u have a vid card that is overclocked by like 50mhz...wow 50mhz...what a HUGE difference...please clue me in as to why u wanna do this
