Based on previous threads, I will probably be buying an x48 motherboard in the next three to four weeks along with a new processor, cooler and RAM.
A set of 2x1GB Patriot Viper DDR3-1333 RAM is on sale for $89.99 from newegg but a cheap x48, ddr3 motherboard is slightly harder to get. Would there be a big difference between this memory and a 4gb Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 kit for overclocking. If I use DDR2 I could get the DFI LP DK x48-T2RS (Newegg.com - DFI LANPARTY DK X48-T2RS LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards) or Gigabyte GA-x48-DS4 (Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS4 LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards) but might lose out on overclocking potential
Also, any real contenders yet to the Q6600 SLACKR for a processor at the $200 price point and recommendations on a good $50(ish) cooler (Tuniq Tower???)
PS: Thanks to everyone on the forum for your help so far!
