Hi folks. My motherboard is an Asus P6T which says it has
2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (dual x16, blue)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, white)
1 x PCIe x1
2 x PCI

for PCI slots. I'm looking at purchasing a Sapphire 100315L Radeon HD 6850 Graphics Card - PCI Express 2.1

Is PCI express 2.1 a totally different slot type? Will it be useable on an Asus P6T or would I need en entirely different motherboard?

Thanks for any help you can give

It will fit and work, but you may not get the max performance out of it. I would imagine the transfer rate of data is probably less then your card could preform, but this is just a guess.

The 2.1 support is just for future motherboards. None currently have a 2.1 PCIe slot (to my knowledge) so you will not be missing out on anything...

I think they actually skipped 2.1 on motherboards and went from 2.0 to 3.0
AFAIK there aren't any general use cards out that will max an x16 2.0 slot

I actually think the 2.1 was kind of the pre-launch to the 3.0... same great taste, less filling.
