Default Quad-Fire or SLi?

Would it be better to run 4 Radeon 3870s on a Phenom processor or run 2 nVidia 8800 Ultras on a dual core?

3870X2 is a 3870 with 2 cores on 1 card... Crossfire X 2 of them and you got 4cores.

Quadfire with 4 cards.

Quadfire with 2 cards.

need to see some benchies

Can someone say...overkill. Crossfire with 2 cards is roughly equivalent to SLI with 2 GT cards. And my 2 GT cards can handle anything i throw at them, so unless you have a 30" monitor and want to play crysis on dx10 with EVERYTHING at max, you wont need 4 3870s

Definitely get quadfire 3870 x2's if you can afford it, and then you will be one of very few people on this planet who can max out Crysis with DX-10 and some insanely high resolution, and still get 60 fps+. Just think, with those x2's you would theoretically have octofire.

You can only have two 3870 X2 , take a look at the Pictures shao posted, only one crossfire bridge on each card, if there were two then you can have 4 of em in, not like you would need that much anyway.
