somwhere out there.....
i may get the i7 but first i need to figure between these 2, so i can figure out why its only 40 bucks more for the quad when its sooo much more powerful?

lets compare the 2:

Q9550
2.83 ghz
quad core
12 mb cache

E8600
3.3 ghz
core2duo
6mb cache

now correct me if i am wrong but the Q9550 is almost as fast as the older core2 extremes? like the QX6600?

here is my question, with my setup below, which card would run crysis and other newer games at the highest frame rates?

the E8600 or the Q9550?

here is the setup:

8gb DDR2 800
750 gb hd 32 mb cache
nvidia 750 sli board
2 x 8800GT SLI or 9800 GT SLI

whatcha think is the faster setup? the E8600 is $175, and the Q9550 is $310....

thanks

the q9550 stock is as fast as a stock qx6850

crysis uses alot of video ram.. the dual 8800gtx would work better. 768mb ram comes in handy. crysis can easily take 1gb of video memory

dual 8800gtx you better be ready with a 700watt power supply with a good amount of amps if you plan on overclocking... if not 650 will work

no.. core 2 extreme has unlocked multiplyer which is great for oc'ing, and motherboards that can't do high fsb's

e8600 is an excellent dual core.... if your not doing any serious... and i mean serious multi tasking.. i would go for the dual core e8500....

games are only dual and single threaded these days

but if you must go for a quad q9550 is the way to go as of now

so there is no advantage over the core 2 duo to have the Q9550? it wont get higher frame rates? whats the 12 mb cache advantage?

and last question, if money is NOT an issue should i get the Q9550?

thanks bro

lol crysis support quads.. thats funny :p

it says it was supposed to.. but never did.. noticed 0 difference between an e2180 and 8800gtx next to a q6600 and 8800gtx

if money is no issue.. 9550 it up ;)

so the Q9550 will perform equal to the E8600 in games, but have more power for multi tasking as well? the i7 is more powerful than the Q9550 and has more overclocking potential than the E8600?

so basically the i7 is the best of the E8600 plus the Q9550 put together x5 lol??

ya, i7 > everything... by far

i7 overclocks as if it were a dual core.. only its a quad with 8 thread (meaning it'll work like an octocore)

look into these 2 mobo's

gigabyte x58 ds5
msi platinum

those are both around 220's and house the intel core i7

and look up some g.skill ddr3 1333 3x1 gb.. those go for only about 100 bucks
