kk glad we got it cleared up, an 8.5 multi isnt that bad, i could run one of these chips since my board can post really high fsb. but then again my q6600 runs at 3.8 so im fine, i should probably pick up a water cooling kit and water cool my cpu and i could get over 4.

doods, what have you been smoking?

Q9300 = 7.5x
Q9400 = 8x (6MB L2 cache)
Q9450 = 8x (12MB L2 cache)
Q9550 = 8.5x
Q9650 = 9x

really gay IMO, it'll be hard for the average person to go over 3.2GHz with that measly 8x multiplier, and for $400... no thank you!

Just to put it into perspective, getting to 3.6GHz on a Q9450 will be the equivalent of getting 4GHz on a Q6600.

Yes, sometimes even faster. One site showed Dual Core SSE4 Processors running SSE4 Divx faster than Quad Core SSE3 Procs. Of course some of the Green Team here quickly downplayed the importance of the SSE4 software LOL!

hrmmm so its more than simple 3.6 ~ to 4.0 q6600... depends on application

for games - you won't see a difference, no current games or future games to come will support SSE4 instructions, and even if they do, I hardly see it having a great impact just yet

The Yorkfields only shine when you have an unlimited multiplier, then you can set yourself to blistering speeds, but as far as the mainstream set of chips were getting, there's nothing special here... imagine the Q9450 being almost $400... to get a 9x multiplier, how much will the Q9650 cost? It'll be like $700... that's bull

this guy from another forum covered it pretty well:
Quote:
If you can wait 2 months, get the Q9450.

If you have a Q6600 already, a Q9450 isn't worth it IMO.

If you want a Q6600 and can wait til April 20, it will price drop to $220.

Clock for clock, the Q9450 is 15% more powerful but at 220 vs 360 USD, it is 63% more expensive.

The Q6600 is tried and true and a G0 should be able to hit 3.4-3.6Ghz easy on a good board.

Q9450 OC-ability is unknown, but assumed to be as good, so you might see 3.6Ghz stable OC's, though this would mean a FSB of 450Mhz, which might be harder to attain.

Q6600 has 2x4MB of L2 vs. Q9450's 2x6MB L2

Q6600 has default 266x9 multi vs Q9450's 333x8

Q9450 has SSE4.1, Q6600 doesn't, but most software/games won't take advantage of this for years.

Q9450 is 45nm vs Q6600 is 65nm. Q9450 is 95W and Q6600 is 105W. Q9450 has less heat production and power consumption.
clock for clock at 3.6GHz, the Q9450 gets a 4% better cpu score than the Q6600 in 3DMark06, so it's hardly a decent choice if you're a gamer/benchmarking enthusiast. The difference in score is probably because of the higher FSB... I'm very underwhelmed with the Q9450, even with it out, I'm still gonna be investing in a Q6600 (I wanna replace my B3 with a G0)

yeah i've been doing alot of research and it looks like the q6600 is a way better choice for the money. the q9450 will cost me anywhere from $350-400 + shipping + tax? and right now i can pick up a q6600 for $216.xx after tax. 200% price for ~15% performance increase. no thanks.

Q9450 FSB = 1333MHz

QDR = 1333MHz/4 = 333.25MHz

333.25MHz x 8 (multiplier) = 2666MHz = 2.66GHz

If the Q9450 had an 8.5x multiplier, its default clock would be 2.83GHz, which it's not, the Q9550 has an 8.5x multiplier and it's got a default clock of 2.83GHz. Look for yourself:

THATS SO BS!!

Freaking low multipliers, no overclocker likes those at all!!

If that G0 q6700 deal was available that krazyq posted, you should get that 10x Multiplier goodness (which means no math involved, move the decimal one over )
